Keyboard Polling Rate &
Switch Chatter Detector
Diagnose mechanical switch chatter, faulty leaf contacts, and measure your keyboard's effective USB polling interval and N-Key Rollover limits in real time.
Spam a suspect key repeatedly (e.g., Spacebar, W, A, S, D). Double-clicks faster than the threshold will trigger a red chatter warning.
Understanding Switch Debounce & Hall-Effect Rapid Trigger
Traditional mechanical keyboards use physical gold-plated leaves that physically slap together to complete a circuit. This mechanical collision creates high-frequency micro-vibrations called switch bounce. Firmware debounce algorithms enforce a software delay (typically 5ms to 20ms) to filter out spurious contacts.
As switches age, dust ingress or bent leaves cause contacts to rebound erratically, causing double typing (e.g., typing "wwood" instead of "wood"). In contrast, modern magnetic Hall-effect switches (Wooting, Razer Huntsman V3, SteelSeries Apex Pro) use magnetic flux sensors to register actuation without physical leaves, virtually eliminating chatter failure.
