๐Ÿ“š Why Your Microphone Is Always Faster Than Your Camera

Human ears detect audio-visual lip-sync errors when sound leads video by more than +45 milliseconds. Because an XLR or USB microphone converts analog sound waves into digital PCM packets in just 2 to 10 milliseconds, your voice enters OBS almost instantaneously.

Conversely, a mirrorless camera (like a Sony a6400 or ZV-E10) must scan its CMOS sensor, encode an HDMI signal, pass it through an Elgato Cam Link capture card, and decode it over USBโ€”a pipeline taking 80 to 130 milliseconds. Without adding a positive Sync Offset to your microphone in OBS, viewers see your lips move after they hear your words.
